Peter Nygård to Build a Fashion Museum
Peter Nygård to build a Fashion Museum around his humble shack
Globally successful Peter Nygård has plans to open a museum. Nygård family's first home in Canada, will become the cornerstone of a new fashion museum.
Last year marked the 'year of celebrations' for the Nygård company as it celebrated its 35 years of success. The fashion mogul purchased this humble shack which was the first home in Canada for his parents & sister in the early 1950ies. The shack is located in Deloraine, Manitoba & will be transported today, Wednesday, to Winnipeg.
Nygård purchased the actual homestead already 3 years ago - to which this 16x14 hovel was attached. The construction crew has had to refurbish & secure the shack in order for it to be transported on a flatbed trailer -- as the structure was in such bad condition that it could not have been transported immediately.
When the shack arrives in Winnipeg, it will become a cornerstone of a large venture - as Nygård is going to establish the Nygård Heritage & Fashion Museum. The museum will also house Nygård's fashion archives featuring the evolution of fashion over the last five decades -- it will showcase the success story of the NYGÅRD company & of its founder.
The location for the museum will in an area named 'Nygård Market Place' -- which will be renovated to include NYGÅRD Fashion World, the latest business/residential loft style condos, fresh food stalls & house the headquarters for Nygård's fashion television network NFN.
Peter Nygård - Founder and Chairman of Nygård International
Nygård's parents Eli & Hilkka Nygård left their home in Helsinki, Finland in search of a better future for their children Peter & Liisa. The family ended up in Deloraine, MB Canada. Through hard work & Finnish 'sisu' - enough money was made to be able to well educate the children.
Both children are successful in their own right - Liisa was also involved in the fashion business, today she is running a successful restaurant chain with her husband.
Peter Nygård is the Founder, Chairman & Visionary of Canada's largest women's fashion house with annual sales exceeding $600M.
Two years ago the people of Deloraine honoured Peter Nygård & his family by naming Nygård Park in their honour. Nygård Park sees thousands of visitors annually & is known for flying the 'Flags of the World'. Deloraine is where the Peter Nygård 'rags-to-riches' story began.
